It works by increasing water content in the stool, making bowel movements softer and easier to pass. Lactulex is also used in the management of hepatic encephalopathy by reducing blood ammonia levels.

Each 5ml of Lactulex Oral Solution contains: Lactulose: 3.335g
Other ingredients include purified water and flavoring agents to improve palatability.
Usage
Lactulex Oral Solution is indicated for:
- Constipation: Chronic or occasional constipation in adults and children.
- Hepatic Encephalopathy: Helps reduce blood ammonia levels in liver disease.
Dosage
For Constipation:
- Adults: Start with 15-30ml daily, adjusted based on response.
- Children (7-14 years): 10-15ml daily.
- Children (1-6 years): 5-10ml daily.
- Infants (<1 year): Up to 5ml daily.
For Hepatic Encephalopathy:
- Adults: 30-45ml three times daily, adjusted to produce 2-3 soft stools per day.
Administration:
- Take orally with or without food.
- Can be diluted with water, juice, or milk to improve taste.
